Izakaya literally translates to "居酒屋: stay-drink-place." Embracing the traditional Japanese drinking and dining culture, we invite you to relax and share Yakitori and Otsumami alongside our signature highballs, and Sake. Not forgetting Shime (Carbs) which signifies the satisfying end to a Japanese Izakaya meal!

Please note: the reservation booking system will redirect to the website of our sister restaurant, House of Small Wonder, which shares the same physical location (Auguststraße 11-13, 10117) and online booking system. If your desired time is not available, we welcome you to join us on a walk-in basis!

FAQ
Can I make a reservation?
Absolutely! Please head over to the Reservations page of our sister restaurant, House of Small Wonder, which shares the same physical location (Auguststr 11-13, 10117) and online booking system. If your desired time is not available, we welcome you to join us on a walk-in basis!
For large group (10+) reservations, please use our request form.
Please note that our outdoor seating is seasonal and weather-dependent, therefore we don’t directly take reservations for our yard.
Can I make a reservation on-site?
While same-day reservations may be possible to make on-site depending on the number of guests, we generally advise that all reservations be made online via OpenTable.
Why do you charge 5€ per person for a reservation No-Show?
When a reservation doesn't show, we still hold a table for at least 15 minutes that otherwise could be used to seat and serve other guests. The 5€ per person charge is a way to help cover the costs of unattended tables.
Why are guests not allowed to split the bill?
Due to past difficulties with split payments, we kindly ask that bills be settled as a single payment. This allows us to provide you – and all guests– with more attentive service. We’re happy to provide an itemized receipt for your convenience. Thank you for understanding!
Can we share the Chef’s Selection?
No – Our set menus are designed to be experienced by the whole table and are served for each guest individually. To make sure the pacing and dining experience is consistent, all guests at the table are to order the Chef’s Selection.
How long does the Chef’s Selection dining experience take?
Depending on your pace, party size and other factors, it generally takes around 90 minutes for the course menu to be finished. If you need to shorten the experience, kindly discuss this with your server upon ordering.
How does your menu work?
We are a Japanese Izakaya-style restaurant, offering small plates for sharing, starting with cold dishes and finishing with Shime (carbs). We also offer curated Chef’s Selection menus that showcase a variety of our dishes, and some that aren’t offered on our a la carte menu.
How do the drink packages work?
We offer different drink packages for a flat rate for a duration of 2.5 hours – for the entire table only. Drinks listed in the chosen drink package can be ordered for this time period one drink per person at a time.
Is there wheelchair access?
Candyman has limited wheelchair accessibility. While we cannot guarantee access through our service entrance as it's managed by an external party, we’re here to help. Please inform a staff member upon arrival, and we’ll do our best to assist you. Coordination may take around 10 minutes.
Are dogs allowed?
We are pet lovers, but we can only allow service dogs inside the café. Well-behaved pooches are allowed in the yard– when it is open.
Where is the famous staircase of House of Small Wonder?
The staircase is still at Johannisstraße 20, our previous location before being displaced by our landlord, Google. As much as we love our new space on Auguststraße, you can imagine having our original home taken away from us and no longer being ‘the place with the magical staircase’ is heart wrenching.
